Course Description

This course introduces undergraduate students to the main concerns of philosophy through the works of major thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hume, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Kierkegaard, Husserl, Sartre, Foucault and Derrida. Class discussions focus on the nature of philosophy, the limits of human knowledge, freedom, morality, the good life, and the meaning of human existence. Students receive an introductory overview of key areas of philosophy and the basic principles of logical reasoning, with active participation encouraged.
