Aunty Anarky! (A Nursery Rhyme by Mason Carter)
Aunty Anarky lives down our street,
in a house that she built with her own two feet.
No landlord, no boss telling her what to do,
she paints her own door in a rainbow of blue!
She's got patches on patches, a jacket of stars,
she rides through the town on a bike, not a car.
Her hair's tied in ribbons of red and of black,
and she carries her home in a bag on her back.
Aunty Anarky, wild and free,
nobody rules her, not even me!
She shares what she has, she asks what you need,
"We decide together!" that's Aunty's creed!
She doesn't like queens and she doesn't like kings,
she says every voice in the circle sings.
When neighbors have troubles, she doesn't say "wait"
she knocks on the doors and they organize straight!
They fix up the park with no permission slip,
they plant it with flowers and let the bees sip.
"Nobody owns the sunshine!" she cheers,
"We look after each other! that's how it appears!"
Aunty Anarky, wild and free,
nobody rules her, not even me!
She shares what she has, she asks what you need,
"We decide together!" that's Aunty's creed!
She lets you pick if you want a hug,
she never says "must" — she just says "would you?"
"Your body, your choices, your heart and your voice,
the best kind of love always starts with a choice."
She teaches the kids how to mend and to sew,
to bake all the bread that the whole street will know.
No one's in charge of the kitchen that day
everybody chops, everybody plays!
Aunty Anarky, wild and free,
nobody rules her, not even me!
She shares what she has, she asks what you need,
"We decide together!" that's Aunty's creed!
When troubles come knocking, she don't call the crown,
she calls all her neighbors from all round the town.
Together they solve it, no gavel, no boss,
'cause solving together means nobody's lost.
No cages, no borders, no fences that bind,
just hands linking hands and a great open mind.
The world isn't ruled from a throne in the sky,
it grows from us caring, from you and from I.
She hums while she gardens, she laughs while she works,
she says every helping hand, every good deed, still counts
no gold star, no prize, and no medal to win,
just the warm feeling glowing you get from within!
Aunty Anarky, wild and free,
nobody rules her, not even me!
She shares what she has, she asks what you need,
"We decide together!" that's Aunty's creed!
So if you see Aunty go rolling on by,
with flowers in her spokes and a gleam in her eye
wave your hand high and shout, "Free to be!"
'Cause that's what she taught us: you, and me, and we!
Aunty Anarky, wild and free,
nobody rules her, not even me!
